For this year’s AMB 2022 in Stuttgart, tooling specialist HAM Präzision joined forces with CAD/CAM solution provider SolidCAM in a common project. The result – a model of SolidCAM’s company building in Schramberg – that impressed!
After more than four years the AMB in Stuttgart opened its doors again for the latest trends in the machining industry.
The complete tooling equipment for the live machining on a DMU 60 EVO linear was exclusively provided from HAM’s high-precision tool range!
Comparable to the daily project business at HAM, the time span for tool design, modification of tool geometries, on-time delivery and a test run together with SolidCAM at DMG was very short until final implementation and acceptance.
During the five days of the AMB exhibition from 13. to 17. September 2022, SolidCAM produced a total of 25 models with a machining time of 2 hours each. With a gross weight of 32 kg per model and an ablation volume of 50%, a total of about 450 kg of high-strength aluminum was machined linearly on the DMU 60 EVO. 32 different HAM tools from the aluminum program (articles 40-1080, 40-5390 as well as torus and radius milling cutters) with a diameter range of 1.0 mm to 63.0 mm were used.
Due to the impact grinded chip spaces, the HAM milling cutters impressed with their high running smoothness and consequently also with good surfaces on the workpiece. The HSF-polished chip spaces, which are essential for chipping less than 1 µm at the cutting edges, are the guarantee for the long tool life. “No tool breakage, no tool exchange, but full customer satisfaction even for critical machining” was the conclusion of SolidCAM COO Michael Leditzky on the last AMB exhibition day.
The biggest challenges for the specialists of both companies were the pocket milling of the offices on the upper floor and the undercuts for the circular support columns on the building. The milling tools from the HAM line “AluCut” type 40-1080 mastered this task brilliantly.
“The time for implementation was very short, but the constant willingness to help and the quick implementation of the entire project by the HAM team were impressive.”
On the last day of the AMB exhibition the SolidCAM team led by COO Michael Leditzky proudly presented one of the limited production workpieces to the HAM team.
